What This Calculator Does

This tool converts an annual salary into an equivalent hourly rate — and also shows the full breakdown: daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly. It's helpful for comparing salaried jobs with hourly or contract roles, and for understanding the real cost of extra hours worked.

How It Works

The formula divides annual salary by total working hours:

Hourly Rate = Annual Salary ÷ (Hours/Week × Weeks/Year)

The default assumes 40 hours/week over 52 weeks (2,080 hours/year). Adjust both fields if you work a non-standard schedule or take unpaid leave.

Example Calculation

A $75,000/year salary at 40 hours/week breaks down as:

  • Hourly: $75,000 ÷ 2,080 = $36.06/hr
  • Daily (8 hrs): $288.46
  • Weekly: $1,442.31
  • Monthly: $6,250

Why This Matters

Salaried employees often work more than 40 hours without additional pay. Understanding your effective hourly rate reveals the true value of your time. If you're working 50 hours/week on a $75,000 salary, your real rate drops to $28.85/hr — significantly less than the standard calculation suggests. This is key information when evaluating job offers, negotiating raises, or deciding whether to take on freelance work.
